Right: Traffic camera images in Houston, Texas are delivered free to mobile phones
Drivers in Houston, Texas US, are to get free access to live traffic cam video on their mobile phones. Local TV station KHCW 39, in collaboration with Houston TranStar and the Texas DOT, is launching the new service to help drivers plan the quickest, safest and most fuel-efficient route to work or home, all before they get behind the wheel.
The CW 39 Traffic Jam Cell Cams service is free to consumers and paid for by advertisers. The technology is provided by 3rd Dimension Inc. which already distributes similar images to drivers in the tri-state area stretching from New Haven, Connecticut to Southern New Jersey and including New York City’s five boroughs. Drivers will need to download an application to their cell phone or handheld device to access the images.
