Intelligent communication systems provider TeleWare has announced the deployment of a new Private Mobile Network for innovITS – ADVANCE, a new UK center for the development of intelligent transport innovations that is based at the existing MIRA site at Nuneaton, Warwickshire. The world-class technical facility is the result of a unique collaboration between innovITS, MIRA and TRL, with £6.5 million (US$10.5 million) funding support being provided by Advantage West Midlands.
Private Mobile Networks Ltd (PMN) – a wholly owned subsidiary of the TeleWare Group – has designed, developed and will implement a cellular-based private communications network that meets the communication needs of the facility. The system is due to go live within six months. The Private Mobile Network provides comprehensive communications for the testing and validating of the next generation of systems connecting vehicles and highways. The construction of the first phase of the center is expected to be open to customers from the global automotive and telecommunications industries and highways operators and authorities in Spring 2010.
The new facility will enable customers from the telecommunications, automotive and electronics industries as well as highways authorities and operators to develop, test and validate future transport technologies in a safe and highly controlled environment. innovITS – ADVANCE aims to reduce accidents, improve environmental efficiency and help to alleviate traffic congestion through the efficient and intelligent use of vehicles and highway infrastructure by facilitating innovation in cooperative vehicle, highway and telecommunications technologies. “PMN was selected for the mobile network for communications in the facility because they offered the special communications systems required for this facility,” confirms John Chatfield, technical program manager for innovITS Ltd.
