Traffic Tech Group has announced the completion of six new truck weighstations on the Salwa Highway, which is an international road connecting Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The Qatar Public Works Authority (PWA) has also awarded Traffic Tech a contract to operate the weighstations for a period of two years. Each station consists of four main parts. At the station approach, there are Main Line Sensors covering all four lanes in one direction of the freeway, which are used for permanent traffic data collection – an ITS component that forms part of the highway’s road asset management system.
The other parts deal with the weight enforcement aspects. Trucks will initially pass through the Ramp Screening Scale, where potential overweight violations are identified. This section is also equipped with an Over-height Vehicle Detection System (OVDS) that detects overheight violation. Trucks then pass onto the Multi Platform Static Scale, where overweight violation is verified through static weighing. There are also bypass lanes that capture information of the trucks that avoided the weighstation. Highly advanced Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) technology was adopted at the mainline, ramp screening, and bypass lanes, allowing data capture of moving vehicles.
Traffic Tech also recently installed a citywide urban traffic control system in Amman, Jordan. Why not read the finer details from the October/November issue of Traffic Technology International magazine. Click here
