Ethernet over copper systems supplier, Actelis Networks, has announced that it has received a multi-million dollar funding boost from its investors. The new capital will go toward supporting further growth and deployment of the company’s Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) products by telecommunications network service providers and government municipalities that are upgrading city-wide transportation networks with new Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The new financing also will enable them to take full advantage of opportunities presented from the US$7.2 billion broadband stimulus, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
With five consecutive years of growth, the company is continuing its expansion across Europe and North America, signing agreements with more than 20 additional new customers over the past two fiscal quarters in 2009. In the USA, municipalities such as the City of Sacramento and the City of San Jose have recently deployed Actelis systems to improve traffic flow and road safety. These projects are part of a move from legacy communication systems to new, all-IP-based Ethernet over copper networks, which are capable of supporting a variety of intelligent traffic monitoring and control applications over existing cabling networks.
The company's Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) products combine its EFMplus copper transmission technology with a complete set of standards-based carrier Ethernet switching capabilities that extend the reach of Ethernet services over existing copper networks. “The additional funding round is extremely important to maintain our strong financial position, further fueling the company's momentum in the domestic and international marketplaces,” says Tuvia Barlev, president and co-founder of Actelis. “Carrier Ethernet is the fastest growing market in telecom, and the explosive demand for our EFM solutions is presenting a wealth of opportunities for the company.”
