Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is to deploy Citilog’s VisioPaD Automatic Incident Detection (AID) system for monitoring traffic along I-95, I-595 and I-75. The project will add 166 cameras to the 45 currently installed, making this the largest deployment of the system worldwide.
The Citilog system will provide real-time monitoring of traffic conditions coupled with complete automated on-screen audible and visual alarms for incidents such as accidents, stopped vehicles and debris. Existing and future cameras will feed information into FDOT’s SMART SunGuide Transportation Management Center (TMC), in doing so enabling significant reductions in response times to incidents.
The software-based system uses existing video signals from any CCTV, fixed or PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera, thereby requiring no new hardware or infrastructure additions. The signals are fed into the VisioPaD video detection units that process them and create instant incident alarms. The video is also recorded and can be stored for post analysis, audit trails, and safety performance measurements.
This deployment was secured via Citilog’s value-added reseller (VAR) partner, Fortran Traffic Systems Limited. Based in Canada, Fortran will also provide ongoing support during the training, deployment, and warranty phases of the project, which is expected to be fully completed in three years. The first phase of the deployment – which will be completed in April 2009 – will add 52 cameras to the existing system.
